Home decoration is colorful and may be unhealthy for the human body!

05 Oct, 2022

  In order to make their homes more distinctive, many people often choose various home decoration styles, not only using bright paints, but also making 3D three-dimensional murals, painted wall paintings, etc. When it comes to decoration pollution, most people focus on organic chemical pollution such as formaldehyde, but ignore lead pollution, thus burying a lot of health risks.

  Lead pollution under painted decoration

  In daily households, painted decorations look gorgeous, but in fact there is a certain amount of lead pollution hidden.

  One is decoration materials. Lead yellow, lead white, red dan, etc. are the main components of color decoration materials, paints and wallpapers. Some families like to decorate children's rooms colorful, which is more likely to cause indoor lead pollution;

  The second is indoor furniture and decorative items. Some families like to be equipped with colored furniture, patterned tableware, colorful curtains, etc. If the quality is not up to standard, the lead content will easily exceed the standard. In addition, the PVC (polyvinyl chloride) edge banding of wood-based panel furniture also contains a large amount of lead.

  In addition, colored children's toys are also an important source of lead pollution. Most of children's toys use spray paint, such as building blocks coated with colored pigments, plastic toys, books and pictures, etc. If children sleep with toys, or eat things without washing their hands after playing, lead poisoning is also likely to occur. Some toys also use batteries, which also expose children to the risk of lead exposure.

  Lead pollution threatens health

  The health hazards posed by lead pollution are often slow and severe, and are especially damaging to children. People who are often exposed to low concentrations of lead will experience headache, dizziness, fatigue, etc., when blood lead reaches 60-80 micrograms per 100 ml, often accompanied by symptoms such as loss of appetite, constipation, and abdominal pain. Zhang Ren said that indoor lead pollution can also accelerate human aging, affect sleep quality, and even lose hair. Children directly chew on furniture, toys and other items that contain lead paint. The lead in the paint will be absorbed into the body through the digestive tract, thereby causing harm to the body. When blood lead in children exceeds 60 micrograms per 100 ml, intellectual developmental disorders and abnormal behaviors will occur, and bone growth and development problems such as narrowing of the epiphyseal line are also prone to occur.

  Return to simple fashion home decoration

  Avoid lead-painted home improvement:

  First, try to choose simple colors. Paints in simple colors tend to be safer than brighter ones. The same is true for curtains and fabrics;

  Second, choose environmentally friendly water-based coatings.

  In the production process, there is no waste residue, waste gas, waste water discharge, no environmental pollution, and the content of volatile harmful substances is greatly reduced, which is environmentally friendly and non-toxic. Furniture manufacturers should consciously refuse to use oil-based paints, the home improvement industry should actively promote environmentally friendly water-based paints, and the government should strengthen industry management;

  Three to see if the lead content exceeds the standard. Relevant standards and laws and regulations in my country limit the lead content in paints to less than 90ppm. When home improvement paint manufacturers produce lead-containing paints, they must ensure that the lead content is within the standard limit stipulated by Chinese law, and clearly indicate the lead content on the product label, which is convenient for consumers to choose;

  Fourth, it is recommended to choose kitchen utensils made of environmentally friendly materials or ceramics. Be careful not to let the kitchen utensils come into contact with acidic food for a long time, which will easily lead to the dissolution of lead and affect health.
